In its imagery The Haunted Lotus refers to the giant sleeping Buddha that lies undisturbed. According to locals, beneath the soild of Bamiyan, impervious to the destruction above, its crisscrossed wrapping recalls the architectural scaffolding supporting the empty cliff-face niches that once housed the Bamiyan Buddhas before their destruction.
