VEER MUNSHI
Born 1955 in Srinagar, Kashmir.
Lives and works in Delhi/Gurgaon, India.
Munshi has addressed a range of subjects throughout his artistic career, but exile remains his most fundamental condition and preoccupation. He consistently uses art to reflect his anguish at the situation in his home state of Kashmir. Making a human rights statement rather than a political one, Munshi has constantly sought to highlight the turmoil resulting from his separation from his heritage and the increasingly narrow space that exists for culture and art in his state.
The underlying structure for his ongoing series "Healing Wounds" is derived from the shapes of shrapnel and other debris created during violent events, particularly those in Kashmir.
